Faridpur is a district located in Bangladesh.

It is a  place of history. Many visitors come to Dhaka and then leave. But there is another Bangladesh' which is natural and undiscovered.

Read about the formal introduction to Faridpur.

So what is there to see?

Actually, if you want to have a fresh air and see some natural scenery , relax and want to understand people of Bangladesh and Indian Sub continent. This might be a place to visit.

Faridpur has changed and has become a semi modern city. The thing is every district has a theme  like in  WordPress or Blogger, for example.

The people in Bangladesh are divided according to districts.

Faridpur is grouped under Faridpur District.

The people from surroundings area have good ties and communication with each other. The cuisine is similar.

Here are some of the places :

  • Gopalgonj
  • Faridpur
  • Madaripur
If you know a person from any of the three ,you get an idea of the rest two. It might be food, interaction  and social network.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh is from Goplagonj and hence lot of progress has been made.

Faridpur City

Here are some of the places to visit in the city :

  • Moyez Manjil
This is a British era mansion ,founded by Chowdhury Moyezuddin Biswas, a landlord. The landlords were under the British Raj. They were called Zamindars and had to apply for getting a Zamindari''.
The Zamindar collected revenue for the British ,but in Indian sub continent, they were aristocrats. Once the British left ,an era was gone.
The son and grand son of the landlord ,Mohan Mia and Chowdhury Kamal ibne Yusuf are well known political figures.

The Zamindars in Bangladesh had lot of say in political matters even after the British had long gone.

Famous visitors to Moyez Manjil:

  • AK Fazlul Huq
  • Netaji Sunash Chandra Bose
  • Other personalities.
More details.

The land outside Dhaka is quite different ,and little more peaceful sometimes but you need to take a local guide of the area.

Visiting a landlord's Palace or house is an experience.  Earlier we blogged about Itachuna Rajbari , a Landlord's palace in West Bengal.

Here is a blogger ,channel name "Away with the Steiners". Talking about village life in Bangladesh.

Itachuna is situated in Hooghly,West Bengal.

My mother's mother's birthday place.
That is my paternal grandmother whose name was Shamsun Nahar and whose family is known as the Mullah Bari of Itachuna.

The Babus were neighbours of the Mullahs in Itachuna. My mother's paternal grandmother father was known as Ghani Mollah.

Lot of stories I heard about the Babus' or Kundu family.Investigatiing about them in the internet ,found they were part of the Maratha raiders that was raiding Bengal .They we're referred as Borgi' and hence Borgi' Danga.

One of the Kundans decided to stay in this cool area, guess they liked the looks and position of this area.

During their 300 years of rule they made some achievement as well as mistreatment.

During their no one was allowed to make their houses more than one or as equal in height to their own house.

But on other hand they established school, college and very good roads way before the West Bengal government did anything. After all they we're the zamindar of that area.

Thier college was named later :Bejoy Narayan Mahavidalya.

  • Basic training college
  • School
  • An atmosphere of peace between Hindu and Muslims.
  • College
Lot of TV and films do part of their shooting in the Itachuna Rajbari.
  • Lootera
  • Andar Mahal
  • And other serials by Aparna Sen.

This is an epic place an interesting place with history.

This family also provided asylum to a Muslim Zamindar in the 1940's.And some how they turned out to be our relatives.(my Aunt's nana happened to be the Muslim zamindar)

I visited many times but in Jan 2018,visited again.I was expecting a good reception but the manager appeared proud and little impolite. This was not expected from such a grand place which I heard so much about.

They do have site:
http://www.itachunarajbari.com/

Yes I was no guest, but there is some respect given as a neighbor or the mangers of the Kundu family needs training in PR.(Public Relations, that is).
